We fully understand the community's wish to stick with single-player gaming experiences here at 2Game. Heck, we're the madpeople that argued in favour of playing Insurgency: Sandstorm solo, and that really ought to tell you everything you need to know about us. All jokes and cheekiness aside, we felt that the time was right for us to come up with a truly massive single-player games list for PC at long last.

At its core, then, this article is conceptually similar to what we've done with our up-to-date Top 100 PC Games piece: a super-sized list of must-have titles that should be on your list of things to play, no ifs and buts about it. If that's what you've been hoping to see, then there's no point in dawdling any further: let's get to it!

2Game's List of Must-Have Single-Player PC Games

As one ought to expect, you'll find a massive list of dedicated solo games below. Not titles that alternate between single-player and multiplayer, not single-player titles with co-op haphazardly attached on top - just classic single-player stuff that should not be missed out on. This does mean that we had to disqualify certain games that would've otherwise been stellar additions to the mix, like Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. It is what it is, though, and this did mean that some other deserving titles do get their time in the limelight, instead!

These are set up in no particular order, too. So, just scroll ahead and see which of the featured titles ends up tickling your fancy! Before we let you loose, we'd like to highlight the fact that this article will be receiving updates on a regular basis, meaning it's going to be worth your while to revisit it every so often and see what's new! On release, we've got 20 games to choose from, but lots will be getting added as we vet them, so check back in whenever you can.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Capcom's flagship action RPG, Dragon's Dogma 2 truly epitomizes the genre in all the best ways. Though the game has some steep hardware requirements on PC, we cannot recommend it enough for anyone that's a fan of the niche.

Alone in the Dark

The unexpectedly phenomenal remake of the game that kicked off the survival horror genre proper is here. Indeed, Alone in the Dark may be a step below the likes of Resident Evil 4, but with a strong narrative and solid gameplay, you're getting something truly special.

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley has been one of the most remarkable surprises of 2024 so far, delivering arguably the finest cozy solo gaming experience we've had in years! This musical adventure game has Snufkin restore a magical valley, all the while meeting the characters and critters calling it home. We cannot recommend it enough!

Fallout: New Vegas - Ultimate Edition

A delightful combination of Bethesda's classic gameplay systems with Obsidian Entertainment's keen narrative proficiencies, New Vegas delivers the best of both worlds with apocalyptic gusto.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 1

Look, Skyrim's never leaving these lists, no matter what anyone says. Starfield may substitute it in some respects, but still!

Atomic Heart

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 3

Surprisingly dense and admittedly poorly written, Atomic Heart is still plenty fun and atmospheric and an overlooked go-to for solo gaming fans.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 11

The latest and possibly greatest of all Resident Evil games, the remake of the legendary RE4 hits some phenomenally high notes from the start to the very end.

Hogwarts Legacy

Fans of Harry Potter need apply, this open-world ARPG pulls no punches and delivers the sort of gameplay we simply did not see coming.

Dredge

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 19

A delightful little Tetris/Lovecraft combo, Dredge takes you on a wild romp through the horrid seas. Everything else is spoiler territory!

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Choosing just one of Bethesda's more recent FPS games to feature in this article was no mean feat, but The New Order stands out due to its compelling story and not a sliver of multiplayer included. Cool stuff!

Assassin's Creed: Origins

The very first of Ubisoft's many RPG-centric Assassin's Creed titles, Origins is smaller and more contained, making it a notable highlight for those who just can't spare hundreds of hours on just one game.

Dishonored

Arguably the best game that Arkane Studios ever created, Dishonored is a tight and dynamic immersive sim that delivers the perfect ratio of content to polish!

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 13

A modernized JRPG classic, Wrath of the White Witch takes its genre tropes and runs with them, setting up an unforgettable Ghibli-esque adventure with a delightfully emotional slant.

Prey

Arguably the second option for Arkane's finest game ever, Prey is a delightful first-person immersive sim that places heavy emphasis on its location: the Talos-1 space station. Not everything is what it seems to be, though, so be warned!

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 9

Guardians of the Galaxy - the movie - may have mellowed out by the time its third entry came out, but that's not the case with the game at all, which is a crisp and inviting action-adventure with some truly innovative takes on combat.

Knights of the Old Republic

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 7

KOTOR is one of those classics that genre fans simply won't be able to resist, but if more context is needed - this is the game that helped put the old Bioware onto the industry map.

Yakuza 0

A classic Yakuza action RPG through and through, this should be the game of choice for those who need something a bit weird and unique to truly enjoy themselves. There's nothing else quite like it!

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

It's Yakuza, but turn-based. What more should one possibly say about it?

Desperados 3

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 15

Desperados 3 handles its source material astonishingly well, but what's more intriguing is that it melds the classic Wild/Weird West tropes with real-time strategic gameplay as well, making it a standout even on a whole list's worth of standouts.

Bioshock: The Collection

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 17

A Randian dream gone nightmarish, the Bioshock trilogy delivers fights and frights in equal measure, as well as a strong narrative to back it all up. For first-time players, a spoiler-free approach is recommended.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Capcom's approach to classic ARPG gameplay hasn't gone forgotten here at 2Game! With a sequel on the way, we think the time is right to replay the amazing Dragon's Dogma until a new title surpasses it in every way.

Control

Single-Player Games List for PC - Article 5

For those who enjoy New Weird and the like, there's nothing quite like the stuff produced by Remedy Entertainment. Control, in particular, cemented the dev's status, and connected all of its previous output with one another in an unexpected way.

Psychonauts

A true Double Fine classic, the original Psychonauts is easily one of the best games of all time, and it being a dedicated single-player experience meant including it here, too, was a no-brainer!
