Top 10 Best Single Player Games 2023

Elden Ring

Singleplayer Games on PC: Elden Ring

What more could possibly be said about FromSoft's latest flagship? With its stunning visuals, this immense souls-like open world RPG offers an adventuring experience like few other games do. Even now, a few years following its initial release, Elden Ring maintains relevancy and remains one of those single player PC games you absolutely, positively need to play. And, sure, it's got a multiplayer component, but if that's not your kind of schtick, there's nothing to worry about!

Hogwarts Legacy

One of 2023's biggest single player PC games is certainly Hogwarts Legacy. This Wizarding World action RPG allows players to fully immerse themselves into the Harry Potter fantasy in a way that's never been represented before. Create your own witch or wizard and embark onto a top-notch AAA journey that rivals the best open-world sandboxes we've got on the market.

Atomic Heart

Atomic Heart is a classic single-player FPS experience that takes many cues from STALKER and Bioshock, just to list a few obvious inspirations. Not an Immersive Sim proper, it's an action and atmosphere-heavy exploration of alt-history Soviet Russia, meaning it's quite a bit different from most other mainline shooters on the market. It's long and irreverently fun, and a must-play in our book.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Singleplayer Games on PC: Resident Evil 4

One of the best remakes of all time, Capcom's re-envisioning of the legendary Resident Evil 4 stands on its own two feet as a prime-time AAA horror experience. Even in 2023, compared to Dead Space and the admittedly less compelling Callisto Protocol, it's a phenomenally engaging and replayable game that will keep you coming back over and over again.

Trepang2

Singleplayer Games on PC: Trepang2

The newest game on this list, Trepang2 makes no attempt to hide its obvious F.E.A.R. inspiration. It's a wilder, more brutal, and more violent shooter than most anything else on the market, and its Combat Simulator lends itself to some of the finest FPS gameplay we've ever seen in this industry. For a small-scale production such as this, that is tall praise indeed.

Sonic Frontiers

Singleplayer Games on PC: Sonic Frontiers

Another phenomenal single-player experience coming from SEGA, Sonic Frontiers threw us for a loop when we first realized that it was, indeed, a compelling 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game. To this day, it remains a delightful choice for fans of the spiky blue rat, and what's more, it's a great option for those who just miss the classic mascot-driven games from the early aughts!

Warhammer 40K: Boltgun

Singleplayer Games on PC: Boltgun

Boltgun is, quite possibly, the best boomer shooter on the market right now. Set in the same roughshod narrative as the equally delightful Space Marine gamesBoltgun lets you loose as an Ultramarine warrior of the highest order. Unsurprisingly, you do get to pulverize all manner of Mankind's worst enemies, and it's great fun. Does one really need a more compelling reason to play a game, then?

Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a Yakuza game alright, but what sets it apart from all the other mainline Yakuza games is the fact that it's set in Edo-era Japan. And, sure, you could take that as a reductive statement - played one, played them all - but there's immense charm and joy in playing this re-envisioning of the classic narrative. For solo-playing fans, we cannot recommend it enough.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

Requiem is, easily, one of the prettiest games on PC right now. And true, the competition is tough, but the sequel to the original Plague Tale more than holds its own. It certainly does help, too, that it's a deeply compelling and interesting story, with a much-improved gameplay loop compared to its predecessor. in other words, if you're in it for the story, this one's the way to go!

Dredge

Finally, we cannot stop recommending Dredge since it first came out. This indie re-envisioning of some of Cosmic Horror's most traditional tropes is deeply atmospheric and inventive. Combined with its core fishing-based gameplay loop and a mysterious narrative, what you get is a unique horror-adjacent farming game that you simply won't get anywhere else.

2023's Hardly Even Half-Way Through!

Now, when looking at the best single player games 2023, it goes without saying that 2023's going to be quite the year overall, with awesome single-player flagships such as Starfield bound to make their mark on the industry. What this means, in effect, is that the list may end up changing before the start of 2024, but that's good news: long gone are the ideas that single-player games might be dying out. In this day and age, it's ready apparent that solo players are a hugely important industry niche, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

And, of course, you can expect to see more awesome single-player game discounts right here at 2Game! If you're reading this early, then you can make good use of our awesome Summer Sale. If not, however, the next big sale is always around the corner, so just stay tuned and sit tight - we've got you covered.
