Getting stuck in a Mudrunner game is like getting shot at in an FPS: these things happen. In fact, if you're a newcomer to the franchise, now that Expeditions: Mudrunner is out, the odds are good that you'll be stuck more often than not, thanks to the delightful combination of extreme offroading jobs that the game throws at you, and its remarkably complex terrain and physics systems. Getting unstuck is, then, something you simply need to learn about!

As Expeditions: Mudrunner has inherited virtually all of its predecessors' awesome gadgets and then some, the thing to keep in mind is that you always have a wealth of tools at your disposal in this game. Even when your inventory is empty! That's right, simply because knowing how to control your truck of choice is the most useful skill of them all, and a clever player will know to leverage their vehicle to the best of its abilities. Learn some of the tricks of the trade down below!

Getting Unstuck in Expeditions: Mudrunner

Obviously, the best-case scenario for getting unstuck in Expeditions is that you have a buddy around to help get you out of the pinch. Since the game's co-op multiplayer mode isn't out yet, though, you'll need to rely on yourself in the time interim, and we're here to help. Do note that each of the game's regions has its own challenges to contend with: not every vehicle will be useful in every situation, and that's something you'll only get a sense for as you progress on your own terms.

The first point of interest are the actual gadgets: inventory items you can use to get clear of particularly tricky situations. The jack-screw and the anchor are absolutely, positively must-have items on every expedition in our book, as they allow you to flip your truck over and set up a winching point where there are otherwise none, respectively. Combined, these tools will both correct your mistakes and allow you to climb slopes otherwise impossible to clear.

To make things easier still, we recommend you acquaint yourself with your vehicle's low-power mode. This increases the power and torque transition from your wheels to the ground and slows you down, making it incredibly useful both for long, perilous climbs and for potentially getting out of dodge.

A key tip to keep in mind is to look for potential winch points, should you flip over. After your truck gets on the roof, the engine will stall, but your winch still works. Even if you run out of custom anchor points (5 per stack), you still can winch up to trees and whatnot, allowing you to potentially get out of harm's way.

Finally, if things truly do get out of hand, you've got two options:

  • Recovery to HQ, which costs credits
  • Take a different vehicle to the first one's breakdown point and try to help it out

With that in mind, we always recommend taking several trucks along with you on a mission, no matter what. It's a just-in-case sort of thing, yes, but you'll be happy that you took an extra scouting car when push comes to shove!
