If you're not just convinced of the quality of Capcom's work on Dragon's Dogma 2, we don't blame you: it's best if you get convinced by your very own set of eyes. Indeed, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a hard-hitting technical showpiece that pushes Capcom's RE engine to its limits on modern-day hardware. Thankfully, it seems that reaching 60 FPS isn't that difficult on reasonably powerful systems, with the bottleneck popping up when trying to go beyond that.

Potential performance concerns aside, though, Dragon's Dogma 2 is the pinnacle of the action role-playing game niche. Combat is fast, punchy, and satisfying. Encounters are physics-driven and interactive, and the player movement is heavy without feeling like a burden. Some of the very best aspects of Monster Hunter and - believe it or not - Elden Ring have been applied here. Though, with that in mind, we'd like to highlight that Dragon's Dogma 2 simply iterates upon the incredible baseline provided by its predecessor. Even though there are parallels with other popular ARPGs of this era, then, it's more of a rhyming situation than anything else.
Exploration and inventiveness are rewarded in droves, too. One of the biggest improvements upon the first Dragon's Dogma is the game world itself, which is now far more interesting, reactive, and loaded with things to see, do, and destroy. Virtually no other contemporary ARPG has tried to do what Capcom's done with Dragon's Dogma 2: instead of going all-out on the story, the focus is the combat and the moment-to-moment gameplay. this is, more so than almost any of its competitors, a fun gaming experience first and foremost.
Expect amazing customization - which you can demo via the free-to-play Character Creator - exciting combat, and delightful exploration. And the more inventive you get about dealing with threats, the more rewarding it all feels!

In summary, then, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a hugely important release that's going to keep us busy for dozens upon dozens of hours. Its value should be self-apparent when we say that even the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC may be hard-pressed to outpace it. Partially, this is because the two ARPGs fit into slightly different niches, but also because the quality of execution on show here is downright phenomenal.
