What is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Thinblood clan

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is an action role-playing game developed by Hardsuit Labs and being published by Paradox Interactive. It is a single-player experience that lets you live out your vampire fantasy in all its bloody glory. There is only one rule – never break the masquerade. Even though secretly ruling Seattle since 1850s, Vampires still remain hidden and letting the secret out will make you a target not only for the police, but for other vampires as well.

You'll be one of the strongest weapons in the war for Seattle's blood-trade in the main storyline. Aside from playing through the main story the game also allows you to engage in side-missions. Side-missions show up through exploration and interacting with vampire clans. There will be more about them later. The story, characters, and side-quests are all written by the creative minds behind the original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Thanks to them we can expect all the intricate details and ambitions from the first game to return, including some of the fan-favourite characters.

Speaking of which, the world is filled with intriguing characters that will react to your choices. Everything you do, from choosing to kill civilians to which clan you choose to follow, will have an impact on the world and the way others treat you.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 release date

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 release date

Unfortunately, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 release date is not yet officially revealed. The developers pushed back the release to a somewhat vague time frame of "later in the year" from the original plan of Q1 of 2020.

The delay is explained by Narrative Lead Brian Mitsoda in a letter to the community. In it, he states that pushing for the release in Q1 of 2020 would risk shipping a game that does not meet the ambitions that both the developers and publishers share. The decision was made in order to ensure that the best possible experience of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is delivered to the players. But don't worry, when we find out what Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 release date is, you'll be the first to know.

What does the gameplay look like

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 gameplay combat system

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay is very action oriented and in first person. The combat is focused on both melee and ranged weapons with supernatural abilities you unlock access to by upgrading the disciplines. There are three of them, with each focusing on another aspect of combat. The Chiropteran unlocks abilities such as gliding through the air and summoning bats. Mentalism will allow you to levitate objects and people with devastating effects. And Nebulation allows you to summon a magical mist which you can then use to conceal yourself or attack, and even transform yourself into a mist to pass through small openings.

Additionally, after you join one of the five clans you'll unlock access to more specific disciplines and upgrades. Some of the disciplines might overlap between the clans but there are no two clans with exactly the same disciplines. Aside from the vampire clans there are five different factions that wrestle for control of Seattle. You'll be the one to decide which one to join, cross, or pit against each other, with each of those choices carrying consequences that will impact the story.

Vampire clans you can join

Vampire clans Toreador

When you start of as a newly formed vampire you will what is known as a Thinblood. Thinbloods are young vampires who still haven't realised their full powers and usually have little to no understanding of themselves or the rules of society they now live in. As you get stronger you will have the choice to join one of the full-blood clans. Each of them will tempt you with their discipline choices, so pick carefully.

First of these clans are the Bruja. Their disciplines focus on strength and speed with abilities that let you cause a shockwave or move so fast everything in the world appears to slow down.

Then there are the Tremere who have the unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Their disciplines are that of blood sorcery and divination,  allowing them to weaponize their own blood and enter their astral form.

The Toreador clan are beauty-obsessed vampires who are more than happy to let others die in the name of art. Their chosen disciplines allow them to gather a crowd of admirers around them that will follow them wherever they go and dash around in lightning speeds.

A city this big always has rules, and in this case those are the Ventrue. They use their disciplines to dominate others and place them in hypnotic trances and prevent all damage for a short time healing themselves instead.

Finally, The Malkavian are the oracles of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Even though others might see them as lunatics or madmen they will still rise on top with abilities that let them inflict panic and terror into their victim's minds or locate other creatures through walls and obstacles.

How long does it take to beat Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

How long to beat

According to the developers completing the game will take roughly 30 hours of play time. That is the same length as a casual playthrough of the first Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines game. However, if you're what product manager Florian Schwarzer call an „obsessive completionist“ that number will greatly extend.

As such the game will be a hefty RPG experience, but also one that the developers expect quite a few people will not be playing through only once. With the number of possibilities available to them it is expected the players will hop back into it and choose different abilities, plans, and backgrounds. That way they'll be able to experience a whole new story based on their playstyle.
