2Game's Best PC Video Games for Kids:

Sonic Superstars

Well, this one was a given! That is to say, the inclusion of the latest Sonic extravaganza in the best video games for kids list shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. I mean, what child doesn't like Sonic? In fact, come to think of it, what adult doesn't like Sonic?! Indeed, I wouldn't mind betting it's this spiky-blue-furred bundle of speed that first that introduced many of us to gaming in the first place, and we've never looked back!

Herein lies the beauty of the franchise. Sonic Superstars, or any of the Sonic games really, represents that rare find in life: a leisure activity that is genuinely fun for all the family, no matter the age. It's E (Everyone) - rated, and it truly lives up to it's claims of inclusiveness.

If you or your child don't yet own Sonic Superstars as the most recent of the awesome fast-paced side-scrollers, I suggest you do something about that. You won't regret it!

Hokko life

In many ways an upgraded and improved version of the much loved Animal Crossing, only for the PC, Hokko Life is the perfect video game for kids. More than that, it's perfect for anyone looking for an antidote to fast-paced living. (In this way, it's quite the opposite of Sonic!)

A million miles from blood, gore, and conflict, Hokko Life is kind in nature. And it's calm. A celebration of creativity, the game gives players the tools to create their own worlds, providing a serene environment in which children can explore freely.

Indeed, if you're looking for a peaceful gaming experience that serves almost as a meditative aid, then Hokko Life is the game for you.

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

One of the most stunning discoveries of 2024 so far, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley truly is a gem. A story-rich musical adventure for all ages, it is playful, quirky, and above all fun. A perfect combination for kids!

Tasked with helping weird and wonderful characters restore their magical valley, players will need to use their stealth to stop the industrious Park Keeper from destroying the wilderness of nature.

After 4 years in the making, the scenery is spectacular, the gameplay is engaging, and ultimately the game is full of heart. We love it!

Time to Morp

A monster collecting game that puts you in charge of the playful Morps, this new colony sim is pretty hypnotic. Delightfully so!

Kids will love chasing the cute and quirky Morps to try and cuddle them, as well as completing the various tasks that make up this immersive sandbox title. With endless possibilities for players to be creative and customize their gameplay, this is a perfect game for children to develop their imagination and problem-solving skills, whilst having fun!

Penny's Big Breakaway

Another 2024 release, Penny's Big Breakaway is a dynamic 3D-platformer filled with inventive gameplay that your whole family will enjoy. Something a bit different, this vibrant game embraces the performer in you. Take a deep breath and step into the spotlight as you aim to deliver a flawless, show-stopping performance. You belong in the limelight. Enjoy, and break a leg!

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection

It's Sonic again! And it's racing! What better combination could a kid ask for?! Rated outstanding by PC Mag, this is arguably the best PC kart-racing action game on the market.

With a massive roster; diverse and twisty land, air, and water tracks; wacky power-ups; wild-racing; and a fun progressive system; Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection is the ultimate home arcade-experience. Truly unique, a typical race includes sprinting across Afterburner's aircraft carrier, diving into the water for aquatic racing, and then taking to the skies to battle over the ship. It's pure adventure-racing, and it's really fun!

LEGO 2K Drive

Perfect for children and families, Lego 2K Drive is another example of a racer that favors fantastical and imaginative gameplay over realism. I mean, it's literally playing with toy cars!

Basically, you take on the persona of a lego minifigure, and drive around characteristically blocky worlds looking for wild and wacky competitions and quests to take part in.

Your lego contraption seamlessly transforms between a car, off-road vehicle, and boat, as you speed your way through various courses, smashing into stuff, powering-up with weapons such as missiles and electrical shocks, and trying to explode any thing/or opponent that stands in your way.

Sounds fun? It is!

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

A culmination of all nine major Star Wars films, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an action video game for the whole family. Best for children aged 10 and upwards, this is your chance to play through the major plots of the series, only with a lighthearted and comedic Lego spin.

Designed to be accessible to younger players, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga includes familiar and iconic adventures, such as Anakin’s podrace in The Phantom Menace, and Rey’s final showdown with the Emperor in The Rise of Skywalker, with revamped combat and engaging yet uncomplicated progression mechanics.

Oh, and after you've completed the saga, there remain 20 open-world planets to explore. May the force be with you!

Yooka-Laylee

Another indie entry to the list of best PC video games for kids, Yooka-Laylee is a quirky 3D platformer based on teamwork, cooperation, and friendship. With cartoon graphics and very minimal violence, it is a perfect game for children to enjoy with the family.

Crowd-funded through Kickstarter, and developed by Playtonic Games, Yooka-Laylee, and its sequel Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair are nostalgic games, full of charming characters, colorful worlds, and whimsical gameplay. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, you'll be pleased to have found them!

Blanc

Another heart-warming co-op indie, Blanc is set in picturesque hand-drawn landscapes, and revolves around an adorable animal duo who are separated from their families by a blizzard.

A relatively uncomplicated adventure, it is your task to help reunite your cute animal companions with their parents, fulfilling fun quests and puzzles along the way.

For example, one of these quests involves escorting a group of ducklings and their mum through various obstacles, shielding the ducklings and preventing them from getting blown away by the icy wind. Such missions are charming, lighthearted, and achievable. They engage younger players without ever feeling too difficult.

Overall, Blanc represents a fun way to play together with a buddy or family member, and to accomplish your goals in partnership. It will leave you/your child feeling good, what more could you ask for from a game?

To Wrap up

We've really enjoyed compiling this list of our favorite PC video games for kids. It really goes to show that, much as we love the challenging RPG cinematic dramas, as well as the blood and gore of some of the M-rated games on the market, there's always room for non-violent video games that focus on fun and entertainment. Uncomplicated games that leave you feeling good about yourself and the world.

Truly, if you're a parent or guardian gamer, you can't beat playing a family-orientated title with your kids. And, even for those without offspring, I think you'll find that these are just good games. Games for anyone, no matter your age.

Indeed, whether it's lighthearted speedy competitive racing; fast-paced Sonic action; or more gentle co-op gameplay you are after; the best PC video games for kids, are not only for children. They are for anyone and everyone who appreciates a good game. We hope you enjoy them!
