It's been a long time coming, but we're finally getting a proper GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC! Even though GTA V has overtaken the cultural milestones that were its predecessors in years passed, many of us still remember when San Andreas was the game to play, bar none.

To be sure, some concerns have been raised about the games' respective updates and improvements, but we'd like to dispel them with this article. As you're bound to understand in a little bit, the Remaster versions of the original GTA Trilogy will offer precisely what many of us have been waiting for all along!

Visual updates are neat, for sure, but they're not necessarily what we're looking forward to the most. To help drive our point home, we've come up with three main reasons why you, too, ought to replay the classics in their up-to-date format!

3 Big Reasons to play the GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC

#3: Huge improvements to gameplay

Having spent quite a lot of time in Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V, we'll readily admit that returning to old GTA games wasn't as easy as we thought it would be. As good as they were back in the day, they're severely outdated by now. Remarkably difficult to get into, if you didn't enjoy the games back in the early 2000s.

According to Rockstar, however, we're getting majorly important gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life additions to all three games featured. Namely, they've cited the following:

  • Introduction of a GTA V style control scheme and gamepad layout
  • Vastly improved gunplay and targeting systems
  • Improved drive-by feature in GTA: San Andreas
  • Updates to the weapon and  radio selection wheels
  • Updates for the mini-map systems
  • Improved navigation via GPS/waypointing
  • Ability to immediately restart a failed mission without waiting

And a number of other things, of course. The end result is a significantly improved gameplay loop for all three games - something that was much-needed for literally decades now, in the case of GTA III.

#2: Cutting-edge tech for old classics

It's widely known that GTA: San Andreas has had huge issues with framerate pacing. The problems were so pervasive, in fact, that players straight-up couldn't swim due to the way the game's engine handled physics and the like at high framerates. Suffice it to say that the issue won't ever appear in the GTA Remaster Trilogy on PC.

That said, hugely important fixes for ridiculous performance bugs aren't the only modernization we're getting here.

Gameplay trailers and screenshots have already shown huge lighting engine improvements across the board. Enhanced shadows and reflections add a wholly new layer of depth to the games' fan-favorite sandbox playgrounds, with vastly improved foliage rendering and draw distances wrapping them in a way we could've only dreamt of back in the day.

The revamped comic-book visual style lends itself well to the topics the games explore, and we've seen massively improved texture detail and material revisions already. On top of that, PC will also be blessed with a DLSS implementation for improved performance and visual quality on Nvidia GPUs, as well as with support for modern high-end resolutions.

Really, we're most thrilled about having the games work perfectly out-of-box. There's no overstating the importance of a good player experience from the get-go!

#1: A unification of the GTA trilogy we've been waiting for

This is the main reason we're thrilled to have GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC. It's going to be a unified, all-in-one classic GTA platform for franchise veterans! All three major GTA releases are bundled into one impeccable and up-to-date experience. Players will gain access to all content from GTA III, GTA: San Andreas, and GTA: Vice City. A downright incredible value proposition!

We'll also enjoy vastly improved graphics and gameplay across the board. Since both San Andreas and Vice City were kinda-sorta standalone expansions for GTA III, it makes perfect sense for the three games to finally be unified under a single banner. Rockstar has updated a bunch of features, as previously discusses. What's more important than mere updates, however, is that they apply to all three games equally.

Even during San Andreas' heyday, GTA III felt a fair bit out-of-date. Not the case anymore! Now, we'll enjoy fully updated control schemes and gameplay features in all three classic GTA games. Not to mention much-needed quality-of-life features. The ability to immediately restart failed missions comes to mind right away.

Closing Thoughts

And there you go - these are our arguments as to why everyone should play GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC. Really, the whole setup feels much the same as Legendary Edition of Mass Effect did, earlier this year. We're talking about incredible gaming classics that everyone should experience at least once. Except, now you don't have to deal with out-of-date and unoptimized code. It all just works, and we cannot overstate how important that is.

On top of that, PC is also getting stellar technological additions. DLSS, for one, will be a phenomenal replacement for anti-aliasing, and the ability to play the games at a native 4K resolution with ultra-wide support is amazing, really. It all comes together to make for a perfect GTA gaming session. One that will easily take you dozens upon dozens of hours to play through it all.

Now, to be perfectly fair, we know that not everyone will enjoy the visual rework, but we don't think hyper-realism was ever on the menu for GTA Trilogy Remaster. The tone of the games matches this new style astonishingly well, and we think you'll agree with us in the end, too.

This is your chance to play the GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC and replay your childhood classics - the way you actually remember them!
