Barotrauma is a surprisingly scary game, and its collection of awesome Steam Workshop mods only doubles down on the scares. This is, after all, a game about being trapped in a leaky tub with massive monsters all around you. On another planet. So, y'know, horror and terror. Today, we're going to show you some of the best Barotrauma mods, and provide you with links to install them.

As you may have guessed, Barotrauma does feature full Steam integration. In practice, this means installing mods is as simple as hitting the 'Subscribe' button on each mod's web page. If this seems not-complex-enough for you, fret not: Barotrauma will get really intense really fast. Especially with the Xenomorph mod. We're really banking hard on that one, but we can hardly overstate how creepy it is. Without further ado, let us show you what you never knew you wanted!

Best Barotrauma Mods - General Selection

Barotrauma Steam Workshop Mods

Look, we get it. For some, being pummeled by incomprehensible monstrosities the size of freight-liners and water pressure that would pound you into a tiny cube is enough horror for some. Not to mention communication with other players. *shudders* In any case, we'll expose you to community-sourced monstrosities shortly. First, however, check out these better submarines and equipment mods!

The first order of business: weaponry. The incredible EK Armory mod includes not only new weapons and assorted tools but also various attachments to customize them with. When the monsters come knocking, you'll now have a sci-fi battle-rifle worthy of space marines.

Playing Barotrauma, you may also have noticed that the majority of its tools are quite big and bulky, and hard to wield. This is likely by design, we'll concede, but if it bothers you that much, be sure to install the AUG Tools mod. There, you'll find a greater variety of useful tools and gadgetry, including one-handed versions of baseline items.

If baseline submarine models feel too complex or hard to get around, something like the lovely Sweet Pea mod is going to work perfectly. This small and simple sub features a single-file horizontal hull layout that's easy to get a grip on, and its smaller size will make it easier to control with fewer people. Or solo, if you're up for it!

On the other hand, if you do have 72 other players to play Barotrauma with you, put them to work on the massive and powerful Nerka submarine mod. This sub can take on virtually every threat it might face in the oceans of Europa, provided that you have a capable team manning it. Phenomenal for role-playing servers with lots of people, too.

Scary Barotrauma Mods You'll want to look into

Barotrauma Steam Workshop Mods

Now that you're properly equipped to handle them, let us show you some of the scariest monster mods for Barotrauma. Naturally, we'll kick things off with the king of all things horrid - the Xenomorph.

One of the most famous Giger designs out there, ALIEN's Xenomorph is a revelry of psychological tricks that can easily disturb a human being into submission. Surely you didn't expect to meet them in the freezing depths of the European oceans? Well, guess what? Not only is the Xenomorph one of the most horrific monster mods for Barotrauma, but it's also one of the most painstakingly detailed ones, at that. These bad boys will easily tear your crew apart when push comes to shove, and they're just sneaky enough to board your sub without raising alarms, too. If it's horror you're looking for, this mod cannot be beaten.

Sharks. They're fun to look at from afar. Not so much when they're the size of a small skyscraper and ramming your leaky boat. If you really want to feel at home in Barotrauma, the Husk Shark is a must-have.

For a variety of ocean-dwelling horrors, we must recommend the awesomely creepy selection of creatures featured in Hamster Lord's Character Pack. Hint: they're only characters if you stretch the definition hard. Regardless, here you'll find mermaids, hammerhead-looking "fish", numerous variants of baseline monsters, and much, much more.

Finally, we've also got a little something that's not entirely alien. Ghosts! Yeah, no, you read that right: ghosts. These man-shaped delights are as dangerous as any other Barotrauma creature, except somehow even more uncanny than a huge alien fish. Big recommendation if you ask us.

What other Barotrauma Steam Workshop Mods are there?

Barotrauma Steam Workshop Mods

As you've surely realized by now, Barotrauma is a veritable fountain of horrors, especially if the modders get a say. This unique game is something that fans of Station 13 will surely be able to get behind, for example. If nothing else, it's an experience like no other, where dread comes not only from the outside but also from the inside. Other players' incompetence or sheer bad luck makes for the best emergent storytelling, in our experience.

Be sure to scroll through the full Workshop for yourself, too, because there are hundreds of mods waiting for your consideration there. From even more monsters to incredible submarines and awesome weapons and tools.

Anyhow, if you'd like to give Barotrauma a whirl with this selection of best Steam Workshop mods, look no further than 2Game! You can get the game on our website and start playing it in minutes. We're nice like that.

And hey, have fun fending off the Xenos! They'll get you, it's really only a matter of time.
