Summarizing Resident Evil 4 Remake Reviews

Resident Evil 4 Remake Reviews: Banner Overview - Main

First things first, anyone who's played the 2005 Resident Evil 4 is almost certainly going to want to play the remake, too. Having defined an entire genre's worth of games in the years since, it's hard to overstate the importance of this seminal release. Capcom, too, understands why the whole thing is so special. That, it's not a big reach to say, is precisely why it's taken so long for the studio to set up a proper remake, even after the successes of its previous RE2R and RE3R endeavors.

Now, 2Game is thrilled to offer two awesome deals to celebrate the occasion of the game's March 24 release date. Exclusively via our website, you can snag a lovely 13% early bird discount on both versions of Resident Evil 4 Remake:

These deals will stay live until the game goes live, so you still have time to save a pretty penny! With that out of the way, let us go over all the key reviews.

A True-To-Form Remake

While we do have plenty to share about this game, Resident Evil 4 Remake reviews don't get much more succinct than Aiofe Wilson's Eurogamer featurette. In her review, Wilson said that "this is about as good as remakes get," adding that not only has the game kept the parts that worked from the 2005 original, but also that it reimagined those parts that didn't originally pan out.

Capcom's Remakes have, from the very first title, successfully delivered upon the core vision of each of these respective titles. From the hopeless encounters with Mr. X shown in RE2R all the way to RE3R's hectic gunfights against invisible horrors. Few things are perfect in life (and the Resi remakes certainly aren't perfect), but Capcom has been careful not to mess with their atmospheres.

"The bulk of the action in RE4 Remake falls into the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' category," said Wilson: "but there are still a few modernisations that players will have come to expect from this genre - ever since the original set the tone for that same genre 18 years ago."

We outlined some of the novelties in our own article discussing Resident Evil 4's new features. Crouching, melee combat, new weapons, a more agile roster of playable characters... Capcom's new take on the horror classic is precisely what most players will have hoped for!

Some Things Did Get Cut, But Others Got Expanded Upon

Blake Hester of Game Informer fame had similarly high praise for the game. "For the first time since 2005," said Hester, "Resident Evil 4 is scary again, and I couldn't be happier. It's incredible." Hester was thrilled with Capcom's ability to discern when the time was right to be nostalgic, and when the experience called for some fresh blood. Hester, specifically, is a big fan of the original game, and came into the experience expecting greatness. Still, though, he was surprised by just how good the whole thing ended up being.

PCGamesN's Ed Smith put his thoughts onto digital paper very plainly: "Every single combat encounter in Resident Evil 4 Remake, whether it’s against a horde of enemies, an end-of-chapter boss, or just a single, hapless Ganado, feels like a set-piece," he explained. "Like all of the systems that compose the game’s combat have been honed, reworked, and exaggerated until even the most incidental moments feel spectacularly choreographed."

Yet, it's every bit worth reiterating that some bits and pieces of content have, indeed, not made the cut. Notably, the legendary U3 boss fight is gone, and certain other tidbits of the content may be coming down the line. Reviewers have noted that Assignment Ada and Separate Ways haven't been spotted yet. We do know, however, that The Mercenaries is coming in the future, so Ada's own adventures may end up getting a re-release, too.

"It's Hard to Really Sell Just How Perfect Resident Evil 4's Remake Is"

"Whether you're a fan of the original or a newcomer with a hankering for some action-heavy horror of the highest quality, Resident Evil 4 is like a parasite-riddled Spaniard: a total no-brainer," concluded IGN in Tristan Ogilvie's review. Ogilvie's takes are hardly one-of-a-kind, it's worth pointing out.

Almost every single reviewer has been thrilled with what Capcom's delivered here. In fact, word is that this may be Capcom's finest outing yet, and possibly one of the best PC games of all time. Now, as far as these claims go, we can't vouch for them just yet. We do aim to check up on them, however. We can tell you that it's bound to be a contender for 2Game's top 100 PC games list, that's for sure!
