SWEET PROBLEMS
Tell me if this sounds familiar. You buy a game and you enjoy the heck out of it. You tell yourself that you could play it all day every day, and it actually becomes a fact. It becomes a game you always get back to. MMORPG, story-driven games, no matter the genre, once the game strikes a cord, it stays there for a long, long time. But plenty more games are getting released and you are in the need of playing something a bit different.
You buy another game, try it for 15 minutes, like it, and then you go back to playing the previous game you know by heart.
Why are we “stuck” on games that we have already beaten or mastered? Why do we feel aversion to committing time to something new?

OUT OF TIME
That is the main factor - time.
The older we get, the more obligations we get. We don’t lose the will to play, we just simply don’t have enough time for video games.
But when we do, which option sounds more tempting? Something old and familiar or something new but potentially not satisfying? Most of us would go with the first option.
If you had 2 hours this weekend just to play games, why waste time on learning a new game when I can enjoy a game that I already know and love? Good time guaranteed. And really, there is nothing wrong with that. Open world games like GTA or Assassin’s Creed are designed for multiple playthroughs. It is hard to get bored considering how much content they offer.

A FILLED CLOSET WITH NOTHING TO PLAY
But the world keeps spinning and the new games are getting released, and before you know it, your Steam gallery is filled with so many wonderful games that have little to no playtime.
Committing to a new game is like anything else. In the beginning, it is going to be hard, but once you get going, you won’t know how to stop. The fact is you will always get back to your favorite game, but don’t let other games collect (virtual) dust.
Commit more than an hour to it. You might be surprised.
