Watch Dogs: Legion was originally announced on 2019's E3. Since then we've been getting plenty of news and updates about it. With all the information floating around it can be hard to keep track of everything. That's why we're making this your one-stop page for all the information regarding Watch Dogs: Legion release date, gameplay, system requirements, pre-order bonuses, and everything else you might want to know about it!

Of course, this page will be updated as more information is released so I recommend you bookmark it so it's easier to come back and stay up to date. So let's check out everything we know about Watch Dogs: Legion!

What we know:

What is Watch Dogs: Legion?

Watch Dogs Legion

Watch Dogs: Legion is the upcoming action-adventure game published by Ubisoft. It is the third installment in the Watch Dogs series, and if the gameplay trailers are to be believed it is the greatest one to date.

Much like the previous games in the series, Legion is set in an open world. This time in a fictional London. However, unlike the previous games in the series, Legion lets you control multiple characters during the gameplay. Of course, each character can be customised with different weapons, non-lethal weapons, and outfits.

The biggest change Legion has over its predecessors is the new co-op gameplay mode. It will allow forming a team of up to four players to progress through the story. The progression from Watch Dogs: Legion multiplayer will be transferred into single-player.

Watch Dogs: Legion PC Release Date

Watch Dogs Legion release date

As per the latest official announcement, the Watch Dogs: Legion PC release date is currently slated for October 29th. Jot that right down, as the game is very unlikely to be pushed back yet once more. We firmly believe that we'll be playing the come come the end of the month, so it's safe to say that the hype train is well on its way to hit us by the time October is all wrapped up.

Watch Dogs: Legion System Requirements and RTX Details

Watch Dogs Legion ctOS

In a fascinating turn of events, Ubisoft has provided us with a very in-depth summary of Watch Dogs: Legion system requirements. Instead of going with the industry-standard Minimum/Recommended specs, we got an awesome array of setting and specification combos that spans across 1080p, 1440p, 4K, and ray-traced gaming options. No, really, Ubisoft really did us a huge favor with this one!

To keep things nice and neat, we've opted to showcase two PC system requirements, with the rest being available in the picture included below.

If you can't open said picture for this reason or the other, here are the two specs that we feel are most relevant, given the current hardware situation and all.

Watch Dogs: Legion 1440p High PC System Requirements

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060S / AMD Radeon RX 5700
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB of dual-channel memory
  • Storage: 45 GB (preferably SSD)

Watch Dogs: Legion 4K Ultra, RTX on PC System Requirements

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080Ti
  • VRAM: 11 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB of dual-channel memory
  • Storage: 65 GB of SSD space (with the HD texture pack)

So there you have it. Nice, neat, and pretty darn precise. Best of all? We're looking at yet another awesome implementation of Nvidia's incredible Deep Learning Super-Sampling technology. Expect for the game to run really well on any RTX card, whether it's 2000 or 3000 series. On that note, if you'd like to see how DLSS performs in action, check out our articles on Death Stranding and the Ghostrunner Demo. We touch upon the topic in both of those pieces.

Watch Dogs: Legion Story & Setting Details

Watch Dogs Legion characters

As mentioned before, the story of Legion mostly takes place in London. Although it does step out of it to the other parts of the United Kingdom at times. In Legion, an authoritarian regime claimed the country and is now in full control of it. The player takes on the role of a member of DEDSEC, a hacking group seeking to provide resistance. DEDSEC members use their knowledge to liberate the city piece by piece and bring down the ctOS – a surveillance system used to maintain control over London.

Unlike the previous games, Legion features multiple playable characters. No, let us rephrase that: Legion features everyone as a playable character. The game's main selling point is literally that players can recruit just about anyone and everyone to DedSec's cause. This means that the game will generate unique backstories and skillsets depending on what kind of character you might be chasing after.

So far, we've seen gameplay snippets featuring assassins, enforcers, hackers, beekeepers, octogenarians, and all sorts of other colorful characters. Some will, on the other hand, be returning stars, such as the example of Aiden Pearce from the first Watch Dogs game. Whether such an ambitious gameplay mechanic will truly pan out or fizzle into nothingness, of course, remains to be seen, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't really excited to play this game.

Watch Dogs: Legion Gameplay Overview

Watch Dogs Legion gameplay

According to the trailers, Legion gameplay will largely revolve around being able to recruit any NPC in the game. Each one of those NPCs is procedurally generated and can be recruited by completing a missions. Some NPCs might even require completion of several missions. Each one of them also falls under one of three categories, or specializations. The categories are hacking, combat, and stealth. Depending on the category, they will receive certain bonuses when performing tasks that fall under the domain of their skillset.

However, there is a catch when talking about the recruited NPCs. Legion introduces the permadeath system for every playable character. That means that if one of them dies you don't get to respawn and continue on your merry way. Instead, you'll have the option to rescue them using a different character. If you succeed, they will live. If you don't, well...

The rest of Legion gameplay is very similar to the previous titles. It features most of the same core mechanics and emphasizes stealth and hacking.
