In search of another sprawling JRPG? Probably not. There are already so many epic titles to get through and not nearly enough hours in the day. Yet, here we have another offering in the form of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. And, I'm sorry to say, it looks good! Of course it does, it was created by the incredible Yoshitaka Murayama, the passing of whom the gaming community continues to mourn.
Indeed, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is due to launch on April 23rd, and the team at Rabbit and Bear Studios are confident they've done enough to make the game stand out from the crowd. No small feat when 'the crowd' includes modern masterpieces such as Dragon's Dogma 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Persona 3 Reload. OK, so the trailer is as spectacular as we anticipated. Is that a good or bad thing? I mean, you may need to carve a few extra hours out of your day, but it certainly looks worth it!
Narrated by the seer B'baba (enchantingly voiced by Helen Keeley), the almost 5 minute video introduces us to some of the titular 100 heroes of the game. It is the coming together of these diverse protagonists, each with their own personality and back-story, that intricately weaves the rich tapestry of this character-driven JRPG.
The tale of a fated three and their links to 100 heroes' destiny, this is a story about the bonds of friendship. It's a tale of courage; loyalty; and above all, love. Love for those who are different from you. Love for the place you call home. And love for the future you want to see.
Truly, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will warm your heart. The animation is stunning, the plot is intriguing, and the characters are well, full of character! Some are rowdy, some are cute, but they are all valuable, each representing their own unique piece of the puzzle.
The fate of these characters remains to be seen but, as well as generating intrigue, the trailer also provides a glimpse of some of the fun that is to be had on your journey. You guessed it, I'm talking about mini games! I mean, what JRPG would be worth its salt without some silly quests along the way?!
The Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Pre-Launch Trailer sets the scene beautifully. We've got mystery, drama, action; as well as fun, love, and friendship. The only thing left to do, is to count down the days till the April 23rd launch.
