As you'll quickly learn while playing Pacific Drive, there's something delightfully off about your jalopy car. It is, in fact, a Remnant: an anomalous piece of machinery that attaches itself to a person to... well, drive them mad. Before that happens, though, the jalopy is your best friend and partner in crime, as you'd be totally lost in the Olympic Exclusion Zone without it. The thing about your particular Remnant, though, is that it's going to develop Quirks.

Quirks are, in essence, potential annoyances that can build up and cause unintended behaviour during your OEZ adventures. Early on, Quirks won't be a big deal. Heck, you might not even notice them at first. They do, however, change and evolve, and if you don't keep track of them, you may well end up in seriously dangerous situations because you haven't kept an eye on your jalopy. Thankfully, you can be proactive about your car's Quirks, and dealing with them is quite interesting indeed.

Fixing car Quirks in Pacific Drive

We'll give you two examples of what an early-game Pacific Drive Quirk might be, straight from our personal experiences with the game:

  • The car very loudly honks whenever you close the trunk shut, potentially alerting nearby Anomalies to your position.
  • Your fuel gauge goes haywire whenever you turn on the windshield wipers.

These are the Quirks we came across so far, and though they're not outright malicious, the constant honking did lead some dangerous Anomalies straight to us in dangerous situations. Generally, this is a recipe for a bad time, so obviously we knew we had to deal with the Quirks as soon as possible.

To do so, visit the Quirk Diagnostic station in the main garage hangar. This is, really, a neat little mini-game where you need to set up the proper IF-THEN lineup of commands for the diagnosis to be successful. After you've correctly identified a particular Quirk, the Station will inform you of what you need to do to fix it. Usually, you'll need to bring a particular set of tools to the Diagnostic Station, and the Quirk will be resolved!

So, definitely keep a very close eye on what your car is doing, and if all of its behaviour is fully intentional. Quirks don't need to be negative, necessarily, but the last thing you want is for all of your doors to open wide whenever you turn the key in the ignition, right? Oh, the good news is - you can disable Quirks entirely, if that's what you want.
