Everything We Know About MK1 PC

Mortal Kombat 1 PC: Article 1

Mortal Kombat 1 both is and isn't a reboot! After the events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, the game was rebooted in-universe, and thus, the new game is, at the same time, both a continuation of the previous narrative, and an all-new story all of its own. All thanks to the new Fire God Liu Kang taking the crown from the legendary Thunder God Raiden.

This is basically all the context you need as to why everyone is back in some form or another. And why, in some instances, familiar characters have been fully revitalized or, indeed, become friends anew. Like the Scorpion and Sub-Zero, though only to some extent.

Netherrealm is working hard to add a whole slew of exciting new features, including a new fighting system and new Kameo fighters. Most of these we discussed in detail in the article featured in the 'READ MORE' section of this piece. With that in mind, reference that if you'd like to learn more. Here, we've got more technical details to go over!

Official Release Date on PC

Mortal Kombat 1 is due to launch on PC on September 19, 2023. Not a long wait at the time of writing this article!

Full Gameplay Reveal

As you've surely noticed by now, we're yet to see a full and proper gameplay reveal for Mortal Kombat 1 as of late May. The developer, Netherrealm, has been secretive so far, and we think the studio has something creative in store for the new fighting system, and the Mortal Kombat universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang. We'll update this article with a full gameplay video as soon as it's available: it will be shown off as part of 2023's Summer Game Fest, specifically on June 8.

Which Edition to Buy?

Mortal Kombat 1 Features: Article 1

For simplicity's sake, collectors may be happy to hear that Mortal Kombat 1 keeps things simple! The Premium Edition of the game is quite loaded with extra goodies, but it is the only digital extra one might consider, so no unnecessary and complicated content tables and such would be necessary!

For EUR 94.99, players get the following:

  • Mortal Kombat 1 base game experience
  • PRE-ORDER: playable Shang Tsung character
  • PRE-ORDER: access to beta gameplay
  • 'KLASSIC' MK character skins
  • 6 DLC Kombatants
  • 5 DLC Kameos
  • 1-week early access to DLC Kombatants and Kameos
  • Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage
  • 1250 Dragon Krystals

As we said - a lot of goodies. The Premium Edition won't be for everyone, of course, but those who'd like to immediately access all the game's content - including post-launch DLCs - can get this version of MK1 via 2Game to secure a sweet 11% discount!

Post-Launch Content Plans

Unsurprisingly, Netherrealm has got big plans for Mortal Kombat 1 post-launch. As mentioned in the previous section, there will be new characters - both the playable Kombatants and the assistant Kameos - coming later on. The scheduling for these, however, is currently not revealed.

Considering Aftermath, we wouldn't be too surprised if big, narrative-heavy expansion packs may come down the line as well, and it's a given that players will have access to a huge array of skins as well. So, expect lots of post-launch content, with the specifics pending at this time!

PC System Requirements

Mortal Kombat 1 PC: Article 3

Finally, if you're worried about being able to run the new fighting system on Mortal Kombat 1, we don't blame you! The recent AAA releases have been... problematic on PC, and it's hard to shake off the feeling that this portion of the industry is currently struggling, as devs move from cross-gen releases over to true PS5/XSX development. So far, though, we don't think you'll need to reach for 2Game's big low-spec optimization guide!
