We've already discussed Manor Lords and its many technical details and the wider context in which it exists, genre-wise. It's an exciting project, no matter how you flip it, and though it's only just come out in Steam Early Access, it's plain as day that there's something special to be found here. But, it's possible you may have already heard it's being made by just one person!

This is, in fact, entirely correct: Manor Lords is being developed by the one-man devteam known as Slavic Magic. Considering the sheer scope and promise of what's to come with Manor Lords, this is an extremely interesting thing to learn about the game. Doubly so if you consider just how incredibly successful Manor Lords has been ahead of its release, as one of the most wish-listed games on Steam.

Who is Making Manor Lords?

More specifically, Manor Lords is the brainchild of one Greg Styczeń. Styczeń began his game dev career a fair while back with RPG Maker, only to eventually graduate to Unreal Engine which would propel him to fame. Notably, while Styczeń is the only active developer of Manor Lords under the Slavic Magic umbrella, it's worth highlighting that his talent has been recognized basically from the get-go!

As discussed in a recent interview with Styczeń, his early work on Manor Lords granted him two key resources: access to a popular Patreon campaign and the potent Epic MegaGrant funding. Without these, it's likely Manor Lords would've either taken way longer to appear in Early Access, or the project might've been scuttled altogether!

Thankfully, this isn't even an option anymore, as Manor Lords is already enjoying immense success on Steam with plenty more to come. Styczeń's plan is for the game to cook in Early Access for about a year or so, with content updates, patches, and general improvements dropping in at a brisk pace.

"I think development went faster when I was in a bubble, after publishing the announcement trailer and setting up social media I think it went into a spiral of infinite reworks. It makes the game better but sometimes it's difficult to know what feedback to listen to and what to ignore," Styczeń said. This underlines his statement on Steam, where he invites players to send over as much feedback as possible to help make Manor Lords as good as it could possibly be.
