OK, what are the best Mount and Blade mods? Let's find out! Based on the Warhammer fantasy world by Games Workshop, Mount & Blade: Bannerlord is fairly close to its Early Access release now, but it's not quite here yet, which is why we felt obligated to create a best-of Warband mods list for 2020! Here you'll find a wide variety of particular mods, both subtle and insane, to carry you over to the end of March.

What was our goal with this list of Warband mods, you're asking? Well, we aim to offer you the widest possible variety of gameplay that Mount & Blade: Warband can offer. Naturally, the quality of said mods was also taken into consideration. Expect to find some of the best Mount & Blade Warband mods on this list, truth be told. Now, without further ado, let us show you the good stuff!

Best Mount and Blade Mods: A New Dawn

warband mods

If it's still Warband you'd like to play, but with more of everything, you can hardly do better than A New Dawn. A staple for many of our Mount & Blade playthroughs, A New Dawn is an immense Warband mod pack that builds upon the renowned Floris Mod Pack with a downright ridiculous number of add-ons.

What you get here is a game world that's far livelier, with a more interesting sandbox, more warring parties, more locations, and a smorgasbord of new weapons and units. We're not joking: expect 3,000 new items and close to 500 new military units! There's also the crucial addition of 11 new minor factions and 12 new castles.

Don't get us started about all the neat little balancing changes and all-new features A New Dawn adds, either. Quite simply, there's so much stuff added that it gets really hard to keep track of it all. Your best bet, if you install A New Dawn, will be to think of it as of an entirely new game!

A Clash of Kings

Chances are that you've had enough of the vanilla Warband gameplay loop that A New Dawn builds upon. If that's the case, you may very well like A Clash of Kings, instead! This goes doubly so if you're a fan of Game of Thrones, because this mod brings Westeros and Essos to life as nothing else does.

A Clash of Kings is a total conversion mod dedicated to creating an interactive version of one of the most popular low-fantasy intellectual properties of the day. It's inspired by both the original books by R. R. Martin and the TV show, and provides you with a chance to inject a little bit of yourself into this sprawling RPG sandbox.

A new map. Over 1000 new items. 35 unique companions. 21 unique factions. And that's just the quick summary of what you'll find in A Clash of Kings. Two other new features stand out, too! Sea travel expands the playing field considerably, for one. The invading Dothraki horde may well force you towards one end of the map, but beware of the Wildlings on the North, too. There's plenty to love in this total conversion mod, and we've barely scratched the surface just now.

The Last Days of the Third Age

Warband mods list without a LOTR mod? That will not do! Enter The Last Days of the Third Age: one of the biggest and bestest mods ever created for Mount & Blade. What this mod does is nothing short of incredible, we feel. Consider it an alternative reality in which you get to decide the final outcome of the War of the Ring!

As you'd expect out of a Warband mod, you get to pick your own faction and build your own character. Whether that ends up being a Rohan cavalry commander or an Orc guerilla combatant is up to you! Build your own army, field it in active combat, and see where the twists and turns of fate take you.

Interesting to note is that The Last Days of the Third Age amps up the complexity of Warband's relatively simple maps and levels up to 11. Prepare for truly vertical and lively cities and plenty of locales you'll really want to explore and familiarize yourself with. Good stuff all around, we promise!

Perisno

If you're very much into fantasy warfare but not all that fired up about LOTR, you may enjoy the Perisno Warband mod! This high-fantasy mod converts its drab and dreary sandbox into one that's brimming with magic. Ride bears! Fight giants! Face the infamous Dreaded One in an open field. Or, rather, don't. It won't go down well.

Whatever you're hoping to get out of a Warband fantasy mod, chances are that Perisno delivers. And then some. It's one of our favorite mods because it's oddly grounded, regardless of its subject matter. There's also the fact that you can wield magical relics in all-out combat. That's fun too!

Warsword Conquest

warband mods

The mod we'd like to wrap things up with answers a simple question. What would a Mount & Blade Warhammer game look like? Featuring all of the Warhammer fantasy races and set on an all-new world map, this is the ultimate Warband mod for fans of this IP. Warsword Conquest also lets you employ huge, gargantuan troops like the dreadful Ratogres. Or, if you're into more exotic beasties, why not get a few Kroxigors or Ushabti to bolster your ranks?

The game world features 33 towns, 58 castles, and 138 villages to fight for. Expect to encounter about twice as many bandit raiding parties, so stay on your toes. Not to mention the fact that each and every race/faction is duking it out with practically everyone else. This is Warhammer, alright.

Now that we've covered the mods themselves, we invite you to check out our hype piece for Bannerlord. It's got some really interesting info you'll be interested in, we think. If nothing else, it'll carry you over until the mods are downloaded. Happy warbanding!
